League of African American Women will present for families, Black History: St. Louis and Beyond.  The slideshow presentation will focus on significant and powerful African Americans who are obscure in history books.  The presentation will end with a focus on Black Women in History: St. Louis and the World as a precursor to Women's History Month.

This October 2010, the League of African American Women and co-sponsor Alderman Sam Moore of the 4th Ward will host its First Annual Black and Beautiful Breast Cancer Walk for Awareness in the Historic Black district of 'The Ville' on the city's North Side. 


Did you know....

Black Women under the age of 50 are 77% more likely than white women to die from Breast Cancer.
  • Black Women are the only group of women diagnosed with the deadliest tumor- the Triple Negative Tumor.
  • Many Black women do not know how to perform monthly self breast exams.
  • Black women under the recommended mammogram age generally do not consider Breast      Cancer a threat.
  • Black women are more likely than other women to develop Breast Cancer before the age of 50.
The Walk will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.  It will begin at MLK and Marcus Ave. and will end with a rally at MLK and Sarah St.  All walkers and teams are asked to arrive at 8:00am to pick up t-shirts and so that the event can begin promptly.   The rally will include live performances, drummers, guest speakers, information tables, and much more.    This event is being co-sponsored by League of African American Women and St.Louis City 4th Ward Alderman Samuel Moore and support by local radio stations.
